Fear Clearing

Welcome August! Which also happens to be my birthday month, and a welcoming to the fiery Leo season that reminds us to tap into our strength and creativity.

This last week I was inspired to do a fear clearing exercise, which an exercise that I typically use in the context of my birthwork as a doula. Individuals are invited to speak out or write out their fears around their labor, birth, and postpartum. The idea is that by speaking out loud or writing out their fears and reading them you can clearly identify your fears, feel them, find a sense of acceptance and softness which in turn allows you to release those fears and have a more positive birth experience. At least in the context of birth, the softer you are, the more you surrender and release makes for a smoother birth than white knuckling or clinging in anxiety or the fear of the unknown.

So I decided to apply this concept of fear clearing to my own life and healing journey. As I'm still recovering from injury, I've held on to a lot of fear and anxiety about the progression and outcome of that injury. Naturally I turned to this fear clearing exercise, I wrote down every fear I had, allowed myself to cry, to feel it all. And within the next 2 days I felt an ease and strength that I hadn't experienced in months, it was almost as if the weight had been lifted from my being. Granted that's not to say one fear clearing exercise was this magic healing potion, as I've been working through physical therapy, massage therapy, etc. for months on end, but it may have been a catalyst to finding more ease even in the context of injury.

So if there is something you are working through in your life that you may have a lot of fear around, whether that be an injury, a relationship, a specific event, situation, etc. You might give fear clearing a try and see what bubbles up to the surface. And then notice what unfurls in the next few days or weeks.
